AI Video Product and Likeness Research Note
Editorial use
This note supports the product-strategy and consent-based-likeness pages. Product controls are described as designed safeguards, not guarantees and not substitutes for publicity, privacy, contract, copyright, trademark, or other law.
Product evidence
OpenAI launched Sora 2 with a standalone social product, remixing, likeness characters, and a feed. The official launch page now states that the Sora product became unavailable on April 26, 2026.
Google's current Veo page distributes Veo through Gemini, Flow, Google Vids, AI Studio, the Gemini API, and an enterprise agent platform. The Veo 3.1 Lite model card also lists API, AI Studio, Google Cloud, Flow, and Workspace channels. Veo is not accurately described as enterprise-only.
Google's Flow launch record emphasizes ingredients, camera controls, scene building, asset management, and learning from visible prompts. Adobe's Firefly video page centers integration with creative applications and makes vendor claims about its training sources and commercial use. Runway's 2026 Agent launch packages multiple-shot generation, conversation, reference assets, and a final editor.
These are company claims and dated cases. They show that model capability can be wrapped in a social loop, a production workflow, a creative suite, or infrastructure.
Likeness lifecycle evidence
OpenAI's Sora safety record described consent-based characters and provenance controls at launch. Its Deployment Safety Hub also states that safeguards can be circumvented.
NIST SP 800-63 Revision 4 provides current digital identity guidance for identity proofing, authentication, fraud, and forged-media risks in government systems. It does not prescribe a consumer likeness feature, but it supports treating enrollment assurance as a risk decision.
The ICO's current consent-management guidance says consent must be specific and informed where it is the lawful basis, and withdrawal must be as easy as consent. UK GDPR may not govern every product, but its lifecycle questions are useful design tests.
The U.S. Copyright Office digital-replica report describes uneven state protection and recommends federal legislation. The USPTO's current name, image, and likeness page distinguishes state NIL rights, trademarks, contracts, and other protections.
Lifecycle synthesis
The Venture Step lifecycle covers enrollment, proofing, capture, purpose, permitted creators, context limits, discovery, labeling, output visibility, delegation, renewal, revocation, existing outputs, reports, appeals, audit, retention, and deletion.
Minors, deceased people, employees, intimate content, political uses, coercion, guardianship, and emergency preservation remain held cases requiring specialized policy and legal review.
