Authenticity asks whether an asset and its available history are what they claim to be. Truth asks whether the represented event, identity, statement, or caption corresponds to the world.

A credential-enabled camera can sign an untouched photograph of a staged event. The provenance can validate while the caption lies.

A genuine image can lose its metadata and credentials during export, messaging, or screenshotting. The available copy can have weak provenance while the depicted event remains real.

The useful verification model therefore has two tracks. Origin and transformation rely on custody, signatures, ingredients, metadata, and tool-specific signals. Depiction and truth rely on context, corroboration, records, witnesses, and claim analysis.

Neither track should be used as a shortcut for the other.
