E037 Historical Experiment Boundary Record
What the source establishes
The October 2024 transcript records Dalton spending about four hours on a local task application while learning Go with Cursor. He described a Go backend, a Java command-line interface, a REST connection, JSON persistence, local execution, generated documentation, and agent-assisted refactoring.
The transcript also records a material context failure. Duplicate project paths existed in different locations. Cursor continued using an unwanted file after Dalton believed it was no longer relevant, and the interface did not give him enough path visibility to identify the mistake immediately.
What the source does not establish
No surviving prototype artifact, repository history, test suite, security review, dependency record, benchmark, or deployment record is currently attached to E037.
The episode therefore does not establish generalized time savings, production readiness, security, maintainability, idiomatic Go or Java, correct documentation, correct refactoring, full test coverage, or a comparative language-performance result.
The four-hour statement is a first-person duration for one learning experiment. It is not a controlled productivity measurement.
Current-product boundary
Cursor's current product is materially broader than the October 2024 editor Dalton described. Current first-party material discusses agent tools, plans, rules, skills, terminal execution, reviews, worktrees, cloud agents, and administrative controls.
These later capabilities belong in a dated current-state section. They must not be projected backward into the original experiment.
Public framing
The supportable story is that context-aware editing helped Dalton reach a working local demonstration in an unfamiliar language, while stale file context undermined his confidence in what had changed.
The strongest lesson is not that an agent made software development effortless. It is that faster generation increases the importance of repository identity, narrow scope, tests, review, and durable version history.
