Useful episode insight

Dalton correctly resisted the idea that one low training-cost headline settled the economics of AI infrastructure. He separated model architecture from delivered systems and recognized that software, networking, memory, utilization, power, facilities, and workload growth affect hardware demand.

Any dollar conversion adds assumptions about ownership or rental, utilization, power, facilities, network, storage, labor, depreciation, region, period, and price.

Model-identity boundary

R1-Zero, R1, V3-Base, distilled Qwen checkpoints, distilled Llama checkpoints, quantized variants, third-party packages, and the hosted DeepSeek API are different artifacts.

The episode cannot establish current API behavior. Current pricing, model names, limits, context, terms, data treatment, safety behavior, availability, and service performance require a current DeepSeek source and a defined test.

Market and legal boundary

An efficiency improvement can reduce compute per task while demand grows enough to increase total compute. It can also reduce spending for a defined workload. These are scenarios, not forecasts.
