Original model boundary

NVIDIA announced GR00T N1 on March 18, 2025. The original post describes the N1 2B model, a dual vision-language and diffusion-transformer architecture, post-training for particular embodiments and tasks, and a training mixture that included internet-scale video, synthetic data, and real robot data.

The original paper was submitted on March 18, 2025 and revised on March 27, 2025.

The original Hugging Face model card attaches NVIDIA model terms, not a blanket Apache 2.0 license for every part of the launch-era stack. It also says the model was not tested or intended for mission-critical applications requiring functional safety.

Current project boundary

The project did not remain frozen at N1. The current repository main branch reviewed on July 28, 2026 describes GR00T N1.7, a different VLM backbone, relative end-effector action representation, different data and deployment interfaces, and Apache 2.0 commercial licensing.

The repository's tagged n1.7-release record is labeled Early Access and dated April 18. The current main branch describes N1.7 as General Availability. NVIDIA's July 7, 2026 development-platform post describes GR00T 1.7 as open, commercially usable, Apache 2.0 software in a broader end-to-end workflow.

The tagged-release label and current-main description should be rechecked immediately before publication. A public page should identify the reviewed source and date rather than silently choosing one status.

Episode viewpoint boundary

The transcript establishes Dalton's excitement about available model weights, simulation, teleoperation, and NVIDIA's surrounding infrastructure. It also preserves his reactions to selected vendor demonstrations and his inference that a widely available model could strengthen demand for NVIDIA tooling and hardware.

The episode does not establish current commercial adoption, production performance, safety, labor outcomes, partnership status, hardware prices, or the representative behavior of any named robot.

The retrospective can preserve the ecosystem thesis as Dalton's argument. It should not turn that argument into a documented NVIDIA strategy or current market conclusion without additional evidence.
