Executive Onboarding and Success Record
Source base
Elad Gil’s employee-onboarding chapter covers welcome communication, role clarity, a buddy outside the reporting chain, real ownership, and early goals. Those practices establish orientation and belonging.
E052’s executive guide extends the framework because a senior hire also inherits decisions, teams, systems, commitments, stakeholder expectations, board interfaces, and material risk.
Operating contract
The plan records the confirmed mandate, exclusions, authority, retained approvals, inherited team and systems, prior owner transition, information sources, access boundaries, stakeholder contracts, first decisions, evidence, risks, support, and review dates.
The previous owner’s contribution should be preserved while temporary overlap receives a purpose and end condition. Permanent shadow ownership undermines the new role.
First decisions
Choose two or three consequential but bounded decisions. Each record names the question, evidence, authority, deadline, affected people, risk, communication, and review.
Evidence
Early evidence may include learned context, sound relationships, repaired information gaps, and decision quality. Later evidence may include team, system, customer, financial, risk, or execution outcomes.
Thirty, sixty, and ninety days are possible review points, not universal outcome deadlines.
Review boundary
The executive can challenge the system as well as receive feedback. Role changes, evaluation, compensation, board involvement, records, and termination require applicable employment, legal, privacy, and governance review.
