Feedback-to-Change Experiment Record

Evidence sequence

Feedback becomes useful when it is converted from a reaction into a bounded test. The record should preserve the signal, source context, reader problem, hypothesis, change, measure, result, and decision.

StageRecord
SignalWhat was observed or said, without exaggeration?
ContextWhich person, page, format, device, task, and moment produced it?
ProblemWhich reader or listener job may be impaired?
HypothesisWhat change could improve that job?
TestWhat will change, for how long, and what will stay stable?
MeasureWhich behavior, comprehension result, error, retention point, or direct follow-up matters?
DecisionKeep, revise, reverse, or gather more evidence

Feedback boundaries

One comment can identify a real issue without representing an entire audience. A repeated metric pattern can reveal friction without explaining the cause. Preference and task failure should be distinguished.

Do not publish private feedback, screenshots, names, contact details, or direct quotations without permission. Preserve only the information needed for the decision.

Supporting sources

GOV.UK's user-satisfaction guidance recommends identifying significant patterns, choosing changes, testing them with prototypes, implementing changes that test well, and monitoring the result. Its prototyping guidance supports fast, lower-risk experiments before production commitment.

YouTube's retention report identifies dips, spikes, and viewing patterns at the video level. Those are signals for investigation, not automatic editing commands. Google Search recommends honest assessment from trusted people and audits of pages affected by performance changes.

Publication use

The public guide should make the test small enough to reverse. It should show that feedback enters a decision process without requiring the creator to obey every opinion.
