First Impressions Revision Method
Principle
A first impression is strong evidence about the observer's expectations, preparation, and immediate context. It is weak evidence about an entire city or culture.
First record
Write the moment, feeling, expectation, conditions, people involved, and action without converting it into a general rule.
Classify the observation as a system gap, one encounter, venue practice, operator rule, possible convention, or unsupported generalization.
Revision
Revisit the note after one week or another meaningful period.
Record what repeated, what changed, what official or local evidence clarified, and which assumption belonged to the observer.
Keep both versions. The change is part of the evidence.
E034 examples
The missing host and weak connection reveal a fragile arrival plan. They do not establish that Tokyo lodging is unreliable.
A quiet train records a particular environment and time. It does not describe every rider.
Help from a sports group and passengers records genuine encounters. It does not establish universal hospitality.
Editorial use
Publish the first impression as dated first-person material or revise it into a bounded method. Do not retrofit later certainty into the original moment.
