Gemini 1.5 Launch and Shutdown Record

At Google I/O on May 14, 2024, Gemini 1.5 Pro and 1.5 Flash were in public preview with one-million-token context windows through Google AI Studio and Vertex AI. A two-million-token 1.5 Pro option was available to developers through a waitlist. Gemini Advanced consumers received a one-million-token context window.

Google's API release notes record general availability for Gemini 1.5 Pro and Flash on May 23, 2024 and general availability for the two-million-token 1.5 Pro context window on June 27, 2024.

The distinction corrects the recovered E017 outline. The two-million-token figure was not a general consumer Gemini website capability on the day of the keynote.

Google's release notes say gemini-1.5-pro, gemini-1.5-flash-8b, and gemini-1.5-flash were shut down on September 29, 2025. Gemini 1.5 is therefore historical product context, not a current model recommendation.

A context window is an input-capacity limit. It does not establish that the model will find, weight, cite, or reason correctly over every detail. Any performance claim still needs the exact model, version, product surface, input type, relevant-information position, task, quality measure, latency, cost, and date.
