Generative Image Taxonomy
| State | Description |
|---|---|
| Sensor capture | Recorded light through a camera system |
| Computational rendering | Device processing such as tone, denoise, HDR, or sharpening |
| Frame selection | One moment selected from a burst or motion sequence |
| Composite | Elements or people combined from multiple captures |
| Removal or relocation | Recorded elements deleted or moved |
| Generative extension | New pixels created beyond or inside the captured frame |
| Fully generated image | Pixels produced without a corresponding scene capture |
These states describe production history, not honesty. A captured image can mislead through framing or context. A composite can transparently communicate an intended memory. Claims about reality require provenance, context, and corroboration.
