Generative Image Taxonomy

StateDescription
Sensor captureRecorded light through a camera system
Computational renderingDevice processing such as tone, denoise, HDR, or sharpening
Frame selectionOne moment selected from a burst or motion sequence
CompositeElements or people combined from multiple captures
Removal or relocationRecorded elements deleted or moved
Generative extensionNew pixels created beyond or inside the captured frame
Fully generated imagePixels produced without a corresponding scene capture

These states describe production history, not honesty. A captured image can mislead through framing or context. A composite can transparently communicate an intended memory. Claims about reality require provenance, context, and corroboration.
