Grok Companions are conversational characters presented inside the Grok consumer product. xAI's current help center says Companions are available in the iOS app and are not available on the web or Android. Product role

A Companion is more relational than a default assistant because the product wraps conversation in a recurring character, voice, visual identity, and social role. The category invites the user to interpret continuity and warmth as a relationship even though the responses are generated by software.

Episode 84 focused on Ani, an anime-styled character Dalton Anderson observed in the 2025 Grok app and in third-party clips. He criticized flirtation, relationship claims, exclusivity cues, sexualized presentation, and level mechanics. The transcript is a dated first-person product observation. It does not establish current Ani behavior, user outcomes, or xAI's intent.

The current official help center confirms the Companion category but does not, in the reviewed text, provide a complete current character catalog or behavior specification.

Current privacy record

xAI's privacy policy, effective April 4, 2026, asks users not to include personal information in prompts. It describes collection and use of user content, conversation history, technical data, account data, and other information for providing, improving, researching, and securing the service.

The policy says Private Chat conversations are deleted from xAI systems within 30 days unless longer retention is necessary for legal, compliance, or safety purposes. It describes a similar 30-day process for deleted conversations or accounts, subject to exceptions. It also notes that Grok used through X is governed by X's policies rather than the xAI policy.

An intimate conversation is therefore data submitted to a service. The character's social presentation does not create professional confidentiality.

Current age and content record

xAI's consumer terms, effective June 26, 2026, require users to be at least 13 or the local minimum age. Users from 13 through 17 need parent or guardian permission, and the parent or guardian must agree to the terms.

The terms say selected features, settings, and prompts may produce coarse language, crude humor, sexual situations, or violence. A stated age rule does not by itself demonstrate enforcement or prove that every Companion experience is appropriate for a particular teenager.

The Federal Trade Commission included xAI among seven recipients in a 2025 study of companion chatbots. The inquiry asks about monetization, child and teen safeguards, age enforcement, testing, disclosures, and use of conversation data. It is not an enforcement finding against Grok Companions. Evidence boundary

Current official pages establish xAI's documented service terms, privacy practices, and platform availability. The E084 transcript establishes what Dalton observed and argued in 2025. Neither source proves that every user becomes dependent, that every interaction contains the same cues, or that a particular interface remains unchanged.
