Llama 3.1 Claim State Timeline Record

E026 was recorded before Meta released Llama 3.1 on July 23, 2024. The captions preserve uncertainty about the model's name, parameter count, availability, weights, license, hardware burden, and comparative performance.

The later release established a family of 8B, 70B, and 405B text models, a 128K context length, eight supported languages, downloadable official artifacts, a custom Llama 3.1 Community License, and a model card dated July 23, 2024. Meta described the 405B model as openly available and reported its own benchmark and human-evaluation results.

The record must keep publisher claims separate from independent evaluation. It must also preserve the pre-release mistakes rather than silently rewriting the episode with hindsight.
