What Meta Announced at Connect 2025
Meta Connect 2025 introduced three AI glasses products, a wrist-based EMG controller, new Horizon creation tools, and a Quest entertainment hub.
What Meta Announced at Connect 2025
Meta Connect 2025 centered on three AI glasses products, a wrist-worn controller that reads muscle activity, faster tools for building Horizon worlds, and a new entertainment hub for Quest. Meta did not announce a Quest 4 at the event.
That last correction matters because early reactions, including the raw Venture Step transcript, sometimes used "Quest 4" while discussing headset improvements. Meta's own September 17, 2025 event record names Quest 3 and Quest 3S in connection with Hyperscape Capture. It does not list a new Quest headset. Meta's official Connect 2025 recap
The launch record at a glance
| Announcement | What Meta said at Connect | Launch state announced on September 17, 2025 | What the announcement did not prove |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 | Up to eight hours of mixed use, 3K video, and improved live AI | Available from $379 | Real-world battery, image quality, and AI reliability across conditions |
| Oakley Meta Vanguard | Centered 12 MP camera, 122-degree lens, 3K capture, sport integrations, and up to nine hours of mixed use | Preorders at $499, with an October 21 launch | That it can replace an action camera for every sport or production workflow |
| Meta Ray-Ban Display | A private monocular display paired with Meta Neural Band | Planned for September 30 at $799 | That a small display is the same thing as full spatial AR |
| Meta Neural Band | Surface electromyography input from subtle hand and finger movements | Included with Meta Ray-Ban Display | Mind reading, perfect decoding, or performance for every person and situation |
| Horizon Engine and Studio | Higher concurrency and prompt-assisted creation of meshes, textures, code, audio, and skyboxes | Announced as platform and creator-tool updates | The quality or economics of a finished world made with those tools |
| Hyperscape Capture | Room scanning that can become a photorealistic world | Early access for Quest 3 and Quest 3S | A new Quest headset |
| Meta Horizon TV | A Quest entertainment hub with media and sports partners | Announced with staged partner and format support | That a headset is already a shared living-room screen |
The table is a dated event record. Product availability, prices, integrations, and software behavior can change after a keynote.

Three glasses, three different product jobs
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 extended Meta's familiar camera-and-audio glasses. Meta said the new model could record 3K video and last up to eight hours under mixed use. It also said live AI could currently run for an hour or two while the company worked toward a more persistent assistant. Those are useful product claims, but "mixed use" is not continuous recording and a launch demo is not an independent battery test.
Oakley Meta Vanguard moved the same broad idea toward sports. Its centered camera, wider lens, wind-oriented audio design, Garmin and Strava connections, and automatic capture triggers gave it a clearer activity role. Meta described up to nine hours of mixed use and a charging case with another 36 hours. The company's detailed announcement says compatible Garmin data can trigger clips at distance, heart-rate, speed, or elevation moments. Oakley Meta Vanguard announcement
Meta Ray-Ban Display added a visual output. The display sits off to one side and is intended for short interactions rather than constant viewing. It can show messages, directions, camera previews, translations, and visual responses from Meta AI. That makes it a display-glasses product, but not automatically a full AR system that maps and anchors content throughout a room.
The wristband was an input announcement
Every new display needs a way to control it. Meta paired its display glasses with Meta Neural Band, a wrist device based on surface electromyography, or sEMG.
Electrodes at the wrist detect electrical patterns associated with muscle activity. Software processes those signals and estimates a gesture, such as a pinch or swipe. The recognized gesture becomes a command for the glasses. Meta's product description says the band can respond to movements that are barely visible and claims up to 18 hours of battery life with an IPX7 water rating. The underlying research is substantial, but the language should stay precise. A peer-reviewed Nature paper describes a generic, non-invasive computer-input system decoded from sEMG. It reports task-specific gesture and handwriting results, including improvement from personalization. It does not describe a device reading private thoughts. Nature research paper
Horizon became easier to build and larger to inhabit
Meta also presented Horizon Engine and Horizon Studio as a new creation stack. The company said its engine could support more than 100 people in one space, about five times the prior capacity. Its Studio tooling was presented as a way to generate or revise assets through prompts, including meshes, textures, TypeScript, audio, and skyboxes.
Hyperscape Capture addressed a different part of creation. Meta said Quest 3 and Quest 3S owners in early access could scan a physical room and turn it into a photorealistic environment using Gaussian splatting, cloud rendering, and streaming. That is an environmental-capture workflow, not evidence of Quest 4.
Horizon TV made the headset an entertainment surface
Meta Horizon TV was pitched as a central place for movies, television, sports, and other media inside Quest. Meta named Disney+, ESPN, Hulu, and Prime Video among its content relationships and discussed later support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.
The product direction makes sense even without a new headset. A large virtual screen can be valuable to one wearer. The harder question is whether the experience includes other people nearby or leaves them watching the wearer watch something. [[Why Spatial Computing Still Feels Solo]] takes up that problem directly.
The failed demos belong in the record too
The keynote included moments when live AI and a call interaction did not work as intended. A stage failure does not erase an announcement, and an announcement does not erase a stage failure. They are different evidence.
A live demonstration can show that a team is willing to expose a working path to real conditions. It can also reveal a dependency, network, account, or recovery weakness. The right response is neither to declare the product fake nor to treat the failure itself as proof of innovation. [[How to Recover From a Failed Live Demo]] explains how to preserve the intended proof when the live path breaks.
The durable Connect 2025 story is therefore not a new Quest generation. It is Meta's attempt to distribute computing across three surfaces: glasses that sense and capture, a display that provides private visual output, and a wristband that turns subtle muscle activity into control. Horizon and Quest remained the world-building and entertainment layers around that wearable strategy.
AI assistance was used for research organization, drafting, and validation. Publication remains unauthorized.
