Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft's current overview says Microsoft 365 Copilot works across apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Loop and can use Microsoft Graph content the user has permission to access.

In Teams chat, the documented source scope can be the single chat thread and responses can contain clickable citations. In meetings, Copilot uses the meeting transcript for meeting-related questions. Recording, transcription, recap, storage, copying, download, consent, and Copilot behavior depend on policies, licenses, organizer choices, and meeting type.

Microsoft states that prompts and responses receive enterprise data protection and are not used to train underlying foundation models. Current documentation also names OpenAI and Anthropic as subprocessors for relevant services.

Slack AI

Slack currently documents conversation summaries, huddle notes, search answers, recaps, file summaries, workflow features, Slackbot, and enterprise search across different paid plans.

Slack says native AI responses use content the requesting member can access. Search responses may include citations. Admins can manage access to individual features and some file, sharing, connector, and web-search behaviors.

Slack huddle notes use the live conversation and huddle-thread messages and create a canvas with notes and embedded transcript. Anyone with access to the channel or direct message can view the canvas, which can be shared.

Comparison boundary

The products organize work around different source surfaces and administrative models. A capability matrix cannot determine answer quality, workflow value, employee acceptance, or security approval. Those require tenant-specific testing.
