Governing method
A guest strategy should begin with audience questions and the show's editorial thesis. A guest is qualified for a proposed conversation, not declared universally good or bad.
Reach, title, employer, media polish, and prior appearances can affect distribution or production risk. They do not prove firsthand knowledge, teaching ability, evidence quality, or fit.
Professional practice
The Oral History Association's current best-practice page recommends selecting narrators for the relevance of their experiences, seeking diverse voices, researching primary and secondary sources, conducting a pre-interview discussion, explaining project purpose and process, and setting expectations for recording, preservation, access, and use.

The OHA Core Principles say prepared questions and narrator agency coexist. The interviewer enters with research, while the narrator helps shape what is relevant and meaningful.

The OHA ethics statement emphasizes informed consent, equitable treatment, clear communication of goals and risks, empathy, and avoiding promises the interviewer cannot keep.

Podcast interviews are not automatically oral histories. These sources are used for transferable preparation, consent, relevance, transparency, and preservation principles.
Guest portfolio
A show-level portfolio should map recurring audience questions to several kinds of firsthand access. Useful categories may include builders, operators, customers, researchers, critics, regulators, affected communities, and people whose evidence challenges the host's prior view.
The portfolio should track whose perspective is missing as well as who is available.
Qualification record
A guest brief should verify public identity and work, name the firsthand experience relevant to the episode, state the governing question, preserve material sources, note conflicts and promotional expectations, identify sensitive areas, and explain why this host and guest can create a distinct conversation.
The brief supports invite, hold, or decline. A numeric score cannot make the decision automatically.
Privacy and publication boundary
Use public professional sources and information volunteered for the production. Do not publish private phone numbers, email addresses, calendars, contracts, rates, unreleased projects, personal vulnerabilities, or the internal reason a prospect was declined.
A profile should follow a recorded appearance and a source-backed public route. A prospect is not an episode asset.
