Social Leverage Evidence Research Note

Question

What current person, organization, scale, and approach facts can Venture Step use for E101, and which apparent official claims need caveats?

What the sources establish

The current Social Leverage team page identifies Matt Ober as a managing partner. It says he previously served as Chief Data Scientist at Third Point, Head of Data Strategy at WorldQuant, and was part of the WorldQuant Ventures founding team. It also says he holds the CAIA designation and sits on the board of governors for California State University, Chico.

The same page lists Howard Lindzon, Tom Peterson, Gary Benitt, and Matt Ober as managing partners. The footer gives a Scottsdale address, identifies Social Leverage Advisors, LLC, and links to an Investment Adviser Public Disclosure record.

The current approach page says the team has invested together under the Social Leverage brand for more than sixteen years, through five funds and a fund of funds. It describes a seed syndicate strategy, meaningful ownership, board participation where appropriate, and current investment criteria.

The home page says the firm was established in 2009, has more than $300 million under management, and has partnered with more than 150 companies. These are dynamic first-party claims.

The Rollup is Ober's current public newsletter on investments, technology, data, and startups. His firm-linked professional profile is LinkedIn.

Disagreement and uncertainty

The transcript calls Ober a general partner. The current firm page controls current editorial wording and says managing partner.

The Social Leverage home page currently contains unresolved testimonial placeholders for Robinhood and Flare. They include generic name fields and text marked pending. They are not valid testimonials and must not be quoted.

The transcript includes an $85 million fund statement, a securities class-action claim estimate, an adviser filing-rate claim, and a portfolio company whose name may be spelled “Lea.” None was established through current primary research for this package. Omit them.

The site footer's legal name does not prove that every affiliated fund or vehicle is the same entity. Use Social Leverage as the brand and identify Social Leverage Advisors, LLC only in the verified site and adviser-record context.

Editorial use

Use managing partner, the current firm biography, the Scottsdale location, the current stated approach, and dated first-party scale claims with clear attribution.

Record the placeholder issue in the company profile and source ledger. Do not treat portfolio inclusion, testimonials, AUM, company counts, or firm criteria as independent performance evidence.
