Acquisition
E043 discussed the acquisition while it was pending. Stripe announced that it completed the Bridge acquisition on February 4, 2025.
Product timeline
In April 2025, Bridge and Visa announced a stablecoin-linked card issuing product. The described flow deducts a cardholder's stablecoin balance, converts it into fiat, and pays the merchant through Visa acceptance. Lead Bank was named as a financial institution partner.
In May 2025, Stripe announced Stablecoin Financial Accounts for businesses across a stated country set, starting with USDC and USDB. The announcement described holding balances, receiving on crypto and fiat rails, and sending stablecoins.
In September 2025, Stripe and Bridge announced Open Issuance for creating and managing business-branded stablecoins. The announcement named reserve and banking partners. Its statements about speed, economics, interoperability, and compliance are first-party claims.
Stripe's 2026 Sessions recap described wider acceptance, stablecoin-backed cards, expanded Open Issuance, orchestration work, and preview or future-quarter items. Each state label must be preserved. Announced, preview, public preview, and generally available are not interchangeable.
Current acceptance surface
Stripe's stablecoin-payment documentation currently controls actual acceptance scope. It identifies business eligibility, customer geography, presentment assets and networks, settlement into USD Stripe balances, refunds, lack of chargeback disputes, product support, and transaction limits.
Strategic interpretation
The later record supports a move toward a broader digital-dollar platform spanning acceptance, accounts, issuance, movement, conversion, and card-linked spending.
It does not show that card rails disappeared. The Visa card partnership illustrates a hybrid strategy that uses stablecoins as a funding layer and a card network for merchant acceptance.
