E073 reacted to Tesla's first Austin Robotaxi rides in June 2025. The updated public package needs to distinguish what Tesla documented, what Dalton observed or repeated at the time, what changed later, and what remains unproved.

The dated record

Tesla's Q2 2025 update says the company launched its Robotaxi service in Austin in June with a safety rider. It says the intended next steps were more vehicles, a larger area, and eventual operation without a safety rider. The same document describes a Robotaxi mobile app and Model Y operation. This is the strongest first-party record for what Tesla itself claimed during the quarter.

The launch document does not supply the fleet exposure, completed-trip count, cancellation rate, intervention definition, incident denominator, exact operational design domain, or a comparative safety analysis. It therefore supports a claim that a constrained service operated, not that the service had reached general availability, a particular safety level, or broad geographic capability.

Texas changed its automated-vehicle framework after the episode. Senate Bill 2807 became effective September 1, 2025. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles says commercial driverless operators have needed an active state authorization since May 28, 2026, after the implementing rules became effective. The program requires compliance attestations, a recording device, a minimal-risk capability, applicable liability coverage or self-insurance, and an emergency-response plan.

As of July 28, 2026, Tesla's Robotaxi support page says service is available in limited areas of Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Tesla's Robotaxi product page names Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Miami but does not name Orlando or Tampa. The disagreement between two current Tesla pages is itself a reason to date every service record and avoid presenting a changing footprint as a timeless fact.

The support page says operating hours vary by area, prices appear in the app, the initial fleet consists of Model Y vehicles, and riders may not sit in the front-left seat. It also says riders can request support and ask the vehicle to pull over or stop. Those statements describe the rider interface. They do not disclose the complete remote-operations architecture or support frequency.

What the first service proved

The June 2025 record supports a narrow conclusion. Tesla operated an Austin ride service using production Model Y vehicles, an app, a defined service area, and a safety rider. That was a real operating milestone.

The record did not establish public access for every eligible rider, operation across Austin, reliable completion in all normal conditions, unsupervised scale, comparative safety, a standardized intervention rate, a mature unit economy, or a settled liability model.

Corrections to the episode

E073 treated geofencing as evidence that the service was not meaningfully autonomous. That is too broad. Level 4 automation is limited to an operational design domain, which can include geography, roadway, weather, speed, traffic, and time constraints.

E073 also used "tele-operated" and "constantly monitored" as though they proved direct continuous remote driving. The reviewed record does not establish that architecture. Remote observation, passenger support, high-level guidance, authorization, and direct remote vehicle control are different functions.

The transcript's ten-vehicle count, South Congress boundary, $4.20 price, restricted-intersection list, hours, weather limits, 10,000-mile intervention claim, and 444-mile counterclaim should not appear as verified fleet facts unless a publication-day source record supplies definitions and dates. They may appear only as claims Dalton was reacting to.
