Evidence model

A useful contemporaneous project record captures the date, question, known facts, uncertainties, alternatives, constraints, expectation, decision, owner, next evidence, and later result.

The purpose is not to produce a diary of everything. It is to preserve the reasoning that an outcome can later make difficult to reconstruct.

Research boundary

Baruch Fischhoff's 1975 experiments studied how outcome knowledge changes judgments under uncertainty. His 2025 reflection describes hindsight bias as a failure to recognize how much learning the outcome has changed perception.

The studies support the risk that later knowledge can reshape earlier judgment. They do not prove that a journal eliminates the bias or that every contemporaneous record is accurate.

The National Archives records-management guidance is written for United States federal agencies. It supports the broader value of complete, accurate, accessible documentation of decisions and institutional memory. It does not turn a creator's notebook into a federal record or impose federal rules on a private project.

Privacy and publication boundary

Documentation and public sharing are different decisions. A private record may contain confidential, personal, regulated, contractual, security, or third-party information that should never be published.

NIST's Privacy Framework supplies a current enterprise-risk lens for privacy. It is voluntary guidance and does not replace applicable law, contracts, policy, consent, or professional advice.

Public authority

Research, privacy, records, legal, editorial, accessibility, and founder review remain required. The record does not authorize retention, disclosure, publication, or changes to any records system.
