Google Cloud

Google Cloud is Alphabet's enterprise cloud business. It includes Google Cloud Platform infrastructure and platform services, Google Workspace communication and collaboration applications, cybersecurity, data and analytics, AI infrastructure, developer platforms, Gemini Enterprise, and other enterprise services.

Google Cloud is not a separately listed public company. Alphabet Inc. reports it as a business segment and Google LLC operates the underlying Google businesses. That distinction matters when citing financial results, legal facts, or investor information.

Thomas Kurian is the chief executive officer of Google Cloud. Sundar Pichai is the chief executive officer of Alphabet and Google.

What Google Cloud sells

Google Cloud Platform supplies compute, storage, databases, networking, data analytics, developer services, machine learning, and cybersecurity. Usage is commonly priced by the consumed service, capacity, storage, request, model token, or another workload measure.

Google Workspace includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, Meet, Chat, Sheets, Slides, and related administrative and AI capabilities for organizations. Workspace is largely subscription-based.

The Cloud segment also contains enterprise AI products such as infrastructure accelerators, the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, the Gemini Enterprise employee app, Gemini for Workspace, and purpose-built agents and customer-experience products.

Alphabet's reporting combines these categories. Google does not publish a standalone audited revenue figure for every product in the segment.

Fiscal 2025 performance

Google Cloud generated $58.705 billion in revenue during 2025, up $15.476 billion or 36 percent from 2024. Segment operating income was $13.910 billion, compared with $6.112 billion in 2024.

Alphabet said revenue growth was primarily driven by Google Cloud Platform infrastructure and platform services. The segment also includes Workspace and other enterprise services, so the total should not be presented as pure infrastructure revenue.

At December 31, 2025, Alphabet reported $242.8 billion of remaining performance obligations, primarily related to Google Cloud. A backlog is a contractual commitment not yet recognized as revenue. It is not current-period sales or cash.

Alphabet's February 2026 call gave 2026 capital expenditure guidance of $175 billion to $185 billion. That guidance covers Alphabet's investment program and was not an amount already spent by Google Cloud.

Infrastructure and locations

Google Cloud's live locations page said it operated across 43 regions and 130 zones on July 27, 2026. The count is time-sensitive and should be refreshed before publication.

Google describes its network as reaching more than 200 countries through 10 million kilometers of fiber. Those figures are company claims from the current infrastructure page. A buyer should use the locations directory to confirm that a specific service, region, residency option, and availability level meet the workload's requirements.

The platform offers Google's Tensor Processing Units as well as third-party accelerator options. Infrastructure, models, data services, and applications are central to Google's "full-stack" positioning.

Current enterprise-agent strategy

Google Cloud Next 2026 presented a blueprint for what Google calls the agentic enterprise.

Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform is the technical environment for building, scaling, governing, and optimizing agents. It is the evolution of Vertex AI. The Gemini Enterprise app is the employee-facing surface for using and supervising agents.

The surrounding architecture includes Agentic Data Cloud for governed data and business context, Agentic Defense for cybersecurity, Agentic Taskforce for work experiences, and infrastructure for training and inference.

Google's strategy depends on these layers working together. A model alone cannot create a governed enterprise workflow. The agent needs authoritative context, identity, tools, runtime capacity, evaluation, monitoring, and a human operating surface.

Individual product capabilities have different availability states. The 2026 event included general availability, preview, private preview, selected-customer preview, and future expectations. The current documentation controls availability, not the event theme.

Ecosystem and interoperability

Google supports first-party Gemini models, third-party models, open models, and more than 200 models and related assets through Model Garden according to the current Agent Platform material.

Model Context Protocol connects agents to tools and resources. Agent2Agent protocol supports communication and task coordination among independent agents. Google donated A2A to an open project, and other platforms such as AWS also document A2A support.

These protocols can reduce custom integration work. They do not automatically make data, identity, memory, evaluations, logs, or commercial terms portable.

Security and operating boundaries

Google Cloud provides identity, networking, encryption, logging, policy, threat detection, and other controls. A service's existence does not make a customer deployment secure by default.

The customer remains responsible for architecture, configuration, access, data quality, workload testing, incident response, and compliance obligations under the applicable shared-responsibility model and contract.

Agent systems add a specific concern: untrusted content can influence tool use. Persistent instructions, retrieved documents, websites, messages, and other agents should be treated as part of the attack surface.

Why Google Cloud appears on Venture Step

Episode 65 examined A2A, MCP, and agent interoperability after Google Cloud Next 2025. Episode 113 returns to the platform after Next 2026, when Google combined the earlier protocol story with a broader system for identity, registry, gateway, runtime, memory, evaluation, observability, data, security, and employee use.

Dalton Anderson also tested the employee experience. His trial found promising contextual suggestions but hit a rate limit and lacked some of the working context required for a strong demonstration. That experience is useful product evidence for one date and account. It is not a benchmark of Google Cloud's enterprise performance.
