Recoverable Focus Block Framework

Purpose

A focus block is a calendar commitment to one concrete outcome. It is not a claim that every worker can control their schedule or that uninterrupted work is always possible.

Design

Name the deliverable, prepare source material, choose the smallest useful duration, include transition time, communicate availability, define real interruption exceptions, and provide a capture path for incoming thoughts.

Close

Stop at the boundary. Record what changed, the next visible action, and any blocker. This reduces restart cost.

Recovery

Preselect a recovery window or triage rule. When interrupted, preserve the current state, decide whether the interruption is legitimate, and reschedule only if the outcome still matters.

Measurement

Measure useful progress, quality, interruption source, restart time, rescheduling success, and cost to other commitments. Calendar hours alone are not the result.

Boundaries

The method cannot override caregiving, frontline service, disability, emergencies, team agreements, employer policy, or accessibility needs. It makes a work commitment visible; it does not create control that the worker lacks.
